Audio Licensing and CC0 Credits

Last updated May 2026

Every rain audio file on this site is sourced from Freesound.org under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) public domain dedication. CC0 does not require attribution, but every creator is credited here as a matter of editorial transparency. You can download the original uncompressed source from Freesound and use it for any purpose, commercial or personal, without permission or payment.

Live Audio Files

All five layers are live and streaming from this site at 256kbps mp3. The originals are uncompressed WAV / FLAC on Freesound; the previews here are encoded for fast browser delivery. File sizes below are the served mp3 size, not the Freesound source.

Per-File Attribution

CC0 does not legally require attribution but we credit creators here so listeners can find more of their work and so anyone wanting the original 24-bit source can download it directly from Freesound.

CC0 Licence Summary

CC0 1.0 Universal (Public Domain Dedication): The person who associated a work with this deed has dedicated the work to the public domain by waiving all of his or her rights to the work worldwide under copyright law, including all related and neighbouring rights, to the extent allowed by law. You can copy, modify, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking permission.

Why CC0 Only

CC0 is the cleanest licence for ambient audio: no attribution clause to comply with, no commercial-use restrictions, no share-alike chains that would force downstream sites to relicense their own content. For a free no-signup sound player, CC0 means the audio is genuinely free for visitors to reuse if they want to take it elsewhere. Other Freesound tiers (CC-BY, CC-BY-NC, CC-Sampling+) are not used on this site for that reason.

Reporting an Attribution Issue

If you are a creator and want a credit removed, modified, or added, please email digitalsignet.com with the Freesound ID and the change requested. We aim to respond within 5 business days.
